Augsburg defender Raphael Framberger has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in a match against Mainz. The 25-year-old defender has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, including two cruciate ligament ruptures in the past seven years.

Framberger suffered the latest injury in the 60th minute of Augsburg's match against Mainz on Sunday. He went down in a heap after a challenge with Mainz forward Karim Onisiwo, and was immediately carried off the field on a stretcher. The defender underwent an MRI scan on Monday, which confirmed a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The news is a major blow for Augsburg, who are currently struggling near the bottom of the Bundesliga table. Framberger has been a regular starter for the club since joining from Paderborn in 2017, and his experience and versatility will be sorely missed.
