Deal to Create Major Carrier in Pacific Region

Partnership Expected to Close in 2024

In a major consolidation move within the airline industry, Alaska Air Group Inc. (ALK) and Hawaiian Holdings Inc. (HA) have announced plans to combine their operations, creating a major carrier in the Pacific region.

The deal, valued at approximately $2.6 billion, is expected to close in 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

The combined airline will be known as Alaska Airlines and will operate a fleet of over 300 aircraft, serving more than 100 destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Pacific region.

The merger is expected to provide significant benefits to both airlines and their passengers, including:

  • Increased network reach, with more flight options and destinations
  • Enhanced loyalty programs, with more opportunities to earn and redeem miles
  • Improved customer service, with a larger and more experienced team of employees

The deal has been welcomed by industry analysts, who believe it will create a stronger competitor in the highly competitive airline market.
