John Oliver, Jon Stewart, and Lewis Black Talk Election 2024 at Emmys: 'This Is Really Crazy'

Oliver, Stewart, and Black discussed the upcoming presidential election during their acceptance speeches at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.

John Oliver, Jon Stewart, and Lewis Black used their acceptance speeches at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards to discuss the upcoming presidential election.

Oliver, who won for Outstanding Variety Talk Series for "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," said that he was "terrified" about the election.

"I'm terrified about what's going to happen in this country," Oliver said. "I'm terrified about what's going to happen to our democracy."

Stewart, who won for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) for "The Problem with Jon Stewart," said that the election was "a referendum on our democracy."

"This is a referendum on our democracy," Stewart said. "This is a referendum on whether or not we're going to continue to be a country that is governed by the rule of law, or whether we're going to become a country that is governed by the whims of a dictator."

Black, who won for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for "Lewis Black: Thanks for Risking Your Life," said that the election was "really crazy."

"This is really crazy," Black said. "I don't know what's going to happen. I don't know who's going to win. But I do know that we need to be prepared for anything."

Oliver, Stewart, and Black's comments come as the country is facing a number of challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic crisis, and the ongoing political divide.

The election is likely to be one of the most consequential in recent history, and the outcome will have a major impact on the future of the country.

It is important for voters to be informed about the candidates and the issues before they cast their ballots. Voters should also be prepared for a long and contentious election season.
