Metrolink disruption to last for HOURS after tram derails as severe delays continue

Major disruption to Metrolink services as a tram derails near Trafford Bar

Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious incident

Services have been suspended for several hours after a tram derailed close to Trafford Bar this afternoon. Emergency services were scrambled to the scene amid reports of an incident. Due to the derailment, Metrolink services between Cornbrook and Trafford Park are currently suspended. It's expected that services will be disrupted for some time.

What happened?

Greater Manchester Police was called to the scene at around 2:15 pm on Thursday (June 8). They attended along with the fire and ambulance services. An eyewitness described seeing a tram on its side and said the road had been cordoned off. Pictures on social media appear to show the tram off the rails near the Trafford Bar stop.

At this point, it is unclear how many people, were on board the tram at the time of the incident. However, the North West Ambulance Service confirmed that two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The area remains cordoned off while an investigation is carried out.

How has Metrolink been affected?

All services between Cornbrook and Trafford Park have been suspended. Metrolink has advised passengers to seek alternative routes on other services. However, Metrolink tickets are being accepted on Stagecoach bus services.

Passengers hoping to travel between Cornbrook and Trafford Park are advised to make alternative arrangements, as it is likely to be some time before the derailment has been cleared.
