San Francisco police shot a person allegedly armed with a gun at the Powell Street transit station on Tuesday afternoon, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. on the platform of the station, which serves the Muni Metro and cable car lines.

Police said the person was “brandishing” a gun when officers opened fire. The person was taken to a hospital, but their condition was not immediately known.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The San Francisco Police Department is investigating the shooting. The department has not released any further information about the incident.

The shooting comes amid a rise in gun violence in San Francisco. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, there have been 36 homicides in the city so far this year, compared to 26 at the same time last year.

The Powell Street transit station is a major transportation hub in San Francisco. It is located in the Union Square neighborhood, which is a popular tourist destination.
