Kim Jong Un: A Journey Through North Korean Leadership
Early Life and Education
Kim Jong Un was born on January 8, 1982, according to North Korean authorities. However, South Korean intelligence believes he was born in 1983. His exact birthplace is unknown, but it is believed to be either Pyongyang or a nearby city.
Kim Jong Un received his primary and secondary education in Switzerland under the pseudonym Pak Un. Little is known about this period of his life, but it is believed that he excelled in his studies.
Ascension to Power
Kim Jong Un ascended to the leadership of North Korea following the death of his father, Kim Jong Il, in December 2011. He quickly consolidated his power, taking over the military and the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.
Since becoming leader, Kim Jong Un has pursued a policy of "songun," or "military first." He has prioritized military spending and development, and North Korea has conducted several nuclear and missile tests under his leadership.
Relations with the United States
Kim Jong Un's relationship with the United States has been complex. He has met with former President Donald Trump three times, and there have been some signs of progress toward denuclearization. However, tensions remain high, and North Korea continues to develop its nuclear and missile capabilities.
